Say that, Say that

Open your mouth for the
speechless,
In the cause of all who
are appointed to die.

Open your mouth, judge
righteously,
And plead the cause of
the poor and the needy.

Proverbs 31: 8-9

We open our mouths a lot, eh?

I've been opening my mouth to cough (feeling a bit rough)
sneeze, drink fluids, etc... and eat!

But we talk a lot, don't we - maybe I should say, I talk a lot.
The 'hind leg off a donkey' type of talking.
Sometimes I should probably tone it down a bit and listen more, and I'm working on that...

But I'm challenged by this verse - to open my mouth for the speechless, for those appointed to die.

I can't imagine being appointed to die. Being so close to death that it looks more possible than life. Poverty. Hunger. Famine. Disease. War. Violence.

And we hear about these things - the news is full of them - but we hear little about the antidotes which are much more powerful.

Fruitfulness. Wholeness. Life. Abundance. Healing. Peace. Kindness.

This is what God wants for all His children. But this isn't always the reality for all His children.

When faced with an overwhelming situation, I often get overwhelmed...because I can see so much lack sometimes and feel powerless and too small to do anything.

But with God, nothing shall be impossible. Nothing. No thing.

That's amazing to me - God's word was designed to be put to the test - to be used and applied to everything, everyone, everywhere.

I'm encouraged by this verse up top because I can open my mouth - I do it lots!
And I can do it for the right reasons and I can do it as creatively as I like :)

I want to do that. I want to tell the stories of people who might not know how to tell them, might not know who to tell them to - I want to open my mouth for the poor, I want to plead their cause. I want to do it in such a way that others are compelled, challenged.

And then the overwhelmed-ness threatens, but, I remember the truth - that what seems impossible to me is possible, even probable with God. [exhale]
